AN AMBULANCE driver was taken to hospital after a collision in Sheffield

The ambulance overturned after a crash involving two other vehicles on Birley Moor Road just before 5pm yesterday.

South Yorkshire Fire service said that two people were injured and the ambulance driver was to taken to hospital.

Birley Moor Road, Occupation Lane and Birley Moor Avenue were closed by police while vehicles were recovered.

A spokesman for Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust said: “We can confirm that one of our ambulances was involved in a road traffic collision with a car on Birley Moor Road in Sheffield just before 5pm on Thursday September 17.

“At the time of the collision the ambulance was on its way to an emergency. As soon as the incident was reported we dispatched another ambulance to the original emergency call and deployed two ambulances and a clinical supervisor to the scene of this road traffic collision. Two patients have been conveyed to hospital to be checked over.

“The incident will be looked into by the Trust and we are assisting South Yorkshire Police with their enquiries.”
