Anglers to host lake fishing event

ANGLERS who have helped conserve a North Yorkshire beauty spot are aiming to hook a new generation on the sport and underline its benefits to the environment.

Scarborough's Throxenby Mere Anglers are aiming to promote interest in fish and fishing at a free event on August 1.

They will show people fishing techniques and equipment and give an introduction to the kinds of fish found in Throxenby Mere and how to identify them.

They will also explain how angling has helped to improve and conserve the lake and what they have done to help.

Helen Percival, of Scarborough's Parks Department, will also be on hand to take people pond-dipping and show them the fascinating world of underwater wildlife.

The event is being run by Friends of Raincliffe Woods (FoRWoods). For information contact the FoRWoods secretary Andy Plant on 07799 816273 or visit the website at www.raincliffewoods.
