Anniversary relay for Ramblers

Walkers are being urged to join a relay along the length of a 200-year-old canal in the latest event to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Ramblers.

The 87-mile route along the Kennet and Avon Canal from Reading to Bristol is one of a series of baton relays around the country, along waterways, coasts, through cities and over mountains, to mark the 75 years the walking charity has been in existence.

The Ramblers' Association is also offering a 75th anniversary 1 membership deal for new walkers joining short five-mile or under strolls across the country as part of its third annual Get Walking Day on the weekend of May 22-23.

The canal relay from May 8 to 15 has been divided into 26 short waterside walks along the towpath and marks the 200th anniversary of the waterways as well as the Ramblers' anniversary.
