Another award for
YP reporter

the Yorkshire Post’s investigative reporter Rob Waugh picked up another accolade yesterday when he was named daily reporter of the year in the Society of Editors’ regional press awards.

Waugh, 46, was singled out for a series of exclusive stories concerning the use of public money by the Association of Chief Police Officers, the chief officers’ unofficial trade union, and Cleveland Police.

In February, the heavyweight reporter was runner-up in the 2012 Paul Foot award for investigative journalism from a shortlist dominated by reporters from national newspapers.

He said: “I’m delighted to win the award.

“Regional newspapers have a key role to play in holding powerful individuals and organisations to account and it’s a great tribute that the Yorkshire Post has been recognised in this way.”

Kevin Shoesmith, of the Hull Daily Mail, was highly commended in the category.

Also from the region, Stephen Garnett, of the Craven Herald, was named weekly photographer of the year.
