Another chance to bid for Yorkshire’s most exclusive Christmas presents

THE Yorkshire Post Christmas charity auction enters its penultimate week today, with just 20 lots of the region’s most exclusive prizes left before it draws to a close.

Bidding has so far been fierce, with generous readers helping to raise thousands for ABF – The Soldiers’ Charity, which is battling to care for soldiers and their families at a time of unprecedented need.

Now 10 more lots are revealed for readers in the auction, which is sponsored by Grant Thornton, the Leeds-based leading business and financial advisers.

Jonathan Riley, senior partner of Grant Thornton in Yorkshire, said: “We are now entering the penultimate week of the auction and bids are continuing to fly in.

“We have some fantastic prizes coming up and I’d urge everyone to dig deep and give generously in the final two weeks.”

Among the pick of this week’s lots, is a chance for six people to spend a day with one of Britain’s most famous regiments based at Catterick Garrison, North Yorkshire – Europe’s largest Army base.

Winning bidders will be given the chance to enjoy a tailor-made trip learning how our troops train to be the very best, hosted by a selection of officers and soldiers.

An ABF spokesman said: “The majority of troops in Catterick Garrison are carrying out their training for deployment next year, so winning bidders will be with a regiment preparing for operations in Afghanistan.

“It will be an unforgettable day.”

Elsewhere, readers can bid for two VIP tickets into the Ogden of Harrogate enclosure at the jewellery business’ prestigious Silver Jubilee Polo Tournament.

The tournament, next summer at Toulston near Tadcaster, attracts polo players from all over the world. The prize also includes a Champagne and Pimms reception, closely followed by a four-course lunch with wine.

Another exclusive lot being made available is six tickets for an event at the 2012 Harrogate International Summer Festival, which also includes a Champagne reception worth £500.

Still in Harrogate, readers can also bid for dinner and bed and breakfast for two at the exclusive Hotel du Vin. The hotel is located in the centre of town in a stunning Georgian building overlooking the Stray, and is the perfect location to enjoy a relaxing overnight stay.

For football fans, the auction is making available two tickets to any Leeds United home game in the 2011-2012 season and a framed limited edition poppy embossed football shirt, signed by the team.

This lot is valued at more than £500, and would make the perfect Christmas present for any Leeds United fan.

For a more hands on role in the beautiful game, the Yorkshire Post is also giving a winning bidder the chance to spend a day in the life as its chief football reporter.
