Antiques Roadshow returns to city after long absence

THE BBC's hugely popular Antiques Roadshow will be filmed in York this summer for the first time in nearly two decades.

The show, which regularly attracts more than six million viewers, will be in the city's Museum Gardens for valuations on Thursday, July 28.

It is the first time the parent show has been in York since 1991, although the Children's Roadshow was staged in the city in 2003.

Presenter Fiona Bruce and leading experts will be on hand to meet the public to tell them more about their objects – including the all important value.

The York Museums Trust's chief executive, Janet Barnes, said: "It has to be one of the most popular programmes on television, and it will be fantastic seeing the gardens full of people with all their wonderful objects."

Valuation days for the show regularly attract between 1,500 and 2,000 visitors. The York event will be held from 9.30am to 4.30pm. The show's producers have confirmed that anyone in the queue by 4.30pm will see an expert.

Anyone with a large item they want valued can contact the BBC ahead of the valuation day to try and organise transportation. The Antiques Roadshow can be contacted via email at [email protected] or by calling 0117 974 2395.
