Apartments plan set to be rejected

PLANS to build apartments next to a petrol station on Chesterfield Road in Sheffield are set to be turned down by city councillors.

Planning officers at Sheffield Council have advised members that the development would not fit in with the surrounding area due "to the large expanse of the elevations and the overall scale and massing of the building".

The planners also said that the three car parking spaces proposed as part of the development would not be sufficient.

The application, for a block of eight flats over four storeys, relates to a piece of land adjacent to Woodbank Service Station, which backs onto Heeley Retail Park.

Three objections have been received in relation to the plans on various grounds, such as the visual impact of the development and its potential effect on traffic.

One objector said: "There are too many unsold empty flats in Sheffield, so is this an appropriate type of development?"
