Appeal after arsonists target cricket clubs

Police are appealing for information after two cricket clubs were subjected to arson attacks over the weekend.

The attackers set fire to the main door, bins and the cricket field itself at Kirkheaton Cricket Club, off Bankfield Lane, Huddersfield, overnight on Saturday. It was reported to police at 8.30am on Sunday.

Lascelles Hall Cricket Club off Highfield Lane, Huddersfield, was also targeted.

Police were called to the club, one of the oldest cricket clubs in the country, in the early hours of yesterday morning.

It was extensively damaged and may have to be demolished. Pieces of irreplaceable memorabilia were also lost.

The investigation is at an early stage and the two attacks are not being linked at this time, but police want anyone with information to come forward.
