Appeal to fund DVD film about Huddersfield eccentric

A film-maker from Yorkshire is asking for public support so she can release a documentary about a local eccentric on DVD.

Michelle Heighway spent five years filming and editing a film about Huddersfield jester Jake Mangel-Wurzel.

She has raised nearly £1,000 on the crowd funding website IndieGoGo but needs to double that sum to pay for a limited edition DVD release, a booklet and an official certificate rating from the British Board of Film Classification.

Her film is called Mr Somebody? and is likely to get a 15 certificate due to strong language.

Since it was completed last year, the documentary has been screened at the Sheffield Doc Fest and the Leeds International Film Festival.

She describes Jake’s story as a “wonderfully human, emotional portrait” of a man who saved himself from depression by changing his name and his whole life.

“The documentary not only captures the fascinating lifestyle of a locally well-known eccentric and prankster, it is also a story of the resilience of human beings.”
