Appeal launched to save post office

A COUNCILLOR has launched an appeal to find a new sub-postmaster to run an under-threat Hull post office.

The city's Welwyn Park Post Office is due to close on Saturday because of the retirement of the current sub-postmaster.

Dave McCobb, Beverley ward councillor at Hull Council, says a number of staff will lose their jobs unless a replacement can

be found, and is asking members of the public or businesses interested in taking over to contact him.

He has also written to the Post Office asking the service to save the facility, or find another suitable site in the area.

Coun McCobb said: "Welwyn Park Post Office is a cornerstone in our community. It provides an important service to many local people but it is especially important for older people in our area.

"Many people who use the post office have already contacted me to say they would like to see it stay open.
