Appeal over theft on London to Leeds train

British Transport Police officers have released CCTV images of a man they want to trace after a rucksack and suit jacket were stolen from a London to Leeds train.

The jacket and bag, which contained over £200 worth of personal items and house keys, were stolen from the overhead luggage racks on board the 7.58pm London Kings Cross to Leeds service on Wednesday, June 3.

PC Sam Bloomfield said: “A 44-year-old man from Leeds boarded the service at Kings Cross and placed his jacket and rucksack in an overhead storage rack.

“When the train arrived in Leeds and he went to pick up his belongings he realised they were missing.

“After receiving CCTV on the train a man, who also boarded the train at Kings Cross, is seen taking the bag and jacket, and leaving the train at Leeds.

“We would like to speak with the man as we believe he may have information which will assist with our enquiries into this theft. If you recognise him, or have any further information, please get in touch.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact British Transport Police on 0800 40 50 40, or text 61016, quoting reference PSUB/B10 of 15/06/2015. Information can also be passed anonymously to independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

This appeal is part of Operation Magnum – BTP’s nationwide initiative to reduce the theft of personal property on trains and at stations.

PC Bloomfield added: “While theft on the rail network continues to fall, we would still advise passengers to be vigilant and keep an eye on their property at all times.”
