Appeal for wartime memories

ENGLISH Heritage is appealing for people's memories or photographs of life at Brodsworth Hall during the two world wars.

Curators and volunteers at Brodsworth are working on an exhibition for 2013 – Country House and War.

Researchers know the hall was requisitioned by the army in 1940, with the family and staff giving up most of the main rooms.

The grounds and farm buildings were also used as a camp for troops arriving back from Dunkirk, in particular the 44th Division.

Curator Caroline Carr Whitworth said: "The number of people that can remember what happened directly is of course dwindling, so that's why we are making this plea now. The war affected people's lives in many different ways at Brodsworth. Ordinary people witnessed and did extraordinary things."
