Applause for new Bishop

THE new Bishop of Doncaster has been ordained during a service at York Minster.

The Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu, centre, ordained Peter Burrows, above holding a Bible, who was formerly Archdeacon of Leeds, to be the new Bishop of Doncaster during the service yesterday.

He was appointed Archdeacon of Leeds in 2005 and has been instrumental in setting up regular contacts with the business community ahead of the financial crisis. “My wife and I are looking forward to new challenges and opportunities as we begin our ministry in the Diocese of Sheffield,” he said.

The preacher at the York Minster service, which was attended by a number of church dignitaries, was James Bell, Bishop of Knaresborough in the Diocese of Ripon and Leeds.
