Ms Brady was awarded a CBE for her services to business.

She broke into the male-dominated world of football as managing director of Birmingham City at the age of 23.

She stayed at the club as MD for 16 years before being appointed vice-chairman of West Ham in 2010.

Ms Brady revealed she did not tell anyone in her family she was receiving the honour and they only found out when her son read about the award in the newspapers.

She said: “It has been difficult over the 20 years, things are getting better.

“But I think if women like me don’t campaign for other women who’s going to do it, so I take it seriously.”

Meanwhile Sir Marcus described helping to bring Prince George into the world as a “lovely experience” as he was knighted for services to the Royal Family.

The baby Prince’s proud father the Duke of Cambridge dubbed Sir Marcus a Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO).

After receiving his honour, Sir Marcus said that overseeing the team that delivered the future King was a nice way to end his career and that William had given him an update on George describing him as a “bouncing baby”.

He had served for 24 years as the Queen’s surgeon-gynaecologist before retiring from the medical profession at the end of last year, and during his time had delivered a number of royal babies.

Sir Marcus said: “I think even after doing this job for 40 years every birth is exciting, moving and lovely.”
