Apprentice's masterclass with top chef

AN apprentice chef who works in Hathersage has taken part in a culinary masterclass with Michelin-starred cook Marco Pierre White.

Joshua Dargan, who works at the George Hotel, is currently completing an NVQ Level 2 in food preparation and professional cookery at Sheffield City College.

He was selected to be one of a group of 14 apprentices who travelled to Pierre White’s “Wheelers” restaurant in London to learn how to prepare a range of dishes from the restaurant’s a la carte menu.

An ex-apprentice himself and the youngest chef ever to have been awarded three Michelin stars, Pierre White is a keen advocate of apprenticeships.

He said: “It was a pleasure to meet the 15 apprentices. In my opinion, an apprenticeship is a passport to a future career. Apprenticeships are the future.”

Mr Dargan said his experience was a “privilege” and added: “I was nervous at first and really excited, but soon relaxed and enjoyed every minute.

“It’s a great opportunity to meet Marco and it’s given me so much more passion for my apprenticeship and pursuing a career as a chef.”
