Archbishop to make visit to district

SENIOR clergy in South Yorkshire said yesterday that they were making final arrangements for a two-day visit to the district by the Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.

The Archbishop is making the pastoral visit next week and will spend Wednesday in Doncaster, where he will visit All Saints Secondary School in Rossington before going to Doncaster College and on to the town’s Young Offenders’ Institution.

He will then attend a civic reception at Doncaster Mansion House, before heading to the Elsecar Heritage Centre, near Barnsley, for a service and question and answer session.

On Thursday, Dr Sentamu will attend Morning Prayer at Sheffield Cathedral, followed by breakfast with invited business leaders at the nearby Cutlers’ Hall in Sheffield city centre.

He will then visit workers at Sheffield Forgemasters in the Don Valley, before returning to the cathedral for a tour of the Archer Project, which helps homeless people.

After spending the afternoon in Darnall with social workers at a family development project, he will return to the Cutlers Hall for the annual Cutlers’ Feast.
