Archbishop prays for Yorkshire soldiers

The beret, prayer book and a special prayer card were presented to the Archbishop by the Regimental Secretary, Lieutenant Colonel David O’Kelly at morning prayers in Bishopthorpe Chapel.

“All those involved with the Yorkshire Regiment will be deeply touched that the Archbishop of York should take such a close and personal interest in what they are doing at the moment,” said Lt Col O’Kelly.

“He clearly cares about all our soldiers who have been, and are still, serving in Afghanistan and to present him with our Regimental head dress to act as a focus for prayers and blessings is very special.”

The Archbishop says daily prayers in the chapel for the Armed Forces and their families, and mentioned the Yorkshire Regiment in yesterday’s morning prayers.

“This beret will be a visual reminder for us as we say our prayers,” he said.

Our Armed Forces perform a vital and selfless role on our behalf. We should never forget their contribution.”

Earlier this year, Dr Sentamu called upon the people in the region to remember their debt to our soldiers fighting in Helmand Province and support their families, following the death of five Yorkshire Regiment troops in a bomb blast.
