Archives scanned ready for move

HUNDREDS of thousands of archive documents have been scanned on to a council’s computer network as part of its forthcoming move to a new £15m civic centre.

Selby District Council staff are moving to the new Doncaster Road site, where the town’s Selby War Memorial Hospital has also now been established, next Monday to try to streamline services and drive down costs.

And as part of the transfer of services, council officers have scanned about 500,000 documents to cut down on paper and boost efficiency.

Leader of the council Coun Mark Crane said: “This is a clean, modern building with facilities that are state-of-the-art.

“Everyone, staff and councillors alike, are extremely excited about the move to the new building and have been working hard to ensure that the transition goes smoothly.

“During the move front line services will be unaffected however we do ask that residents bear with us during this major transition.

“We are all looking forward to working in a building that will be at the heart of the community.”

Health staff began moving into the new multi-million pound hospital on the site last month.
