Arena work to start in 2011

BUILDING work on the Leeds Arena is expected to start early next year senior councillors will be told next week when they meet to approve detailed design plans.

Members of Leeds City Council’s executive board will be told the project is due to be completed at the end of 2012 and open early 2013 when they meet on Wednesday.

The report also comes with the news it has been awarded an entertainment premises licence.

Coun Richard Lewis, executive member responsible for city development, said: “In these difficult economic times the Leeds Arena project will boost the construction industry and bring jobs, training opportunities and economic investment to the city.”

Excavations at Clay Pit Lane are now complete.
