Armed police end stand-off with arrest

ARMED police last night arrested a man following a six-hour stand-off at a house in Sheffield.

South Yorkshire Police said officers had originally gone to an address on Edensor Road in Norwood, at about 12.20pm to arrest a 34-year-old man for breaching the conditions of his release from prison.

The man refused to comply and then made threats he had a weapon.

Negotiators were called and a 30-year-old woman who had also been inside emerged unharmed. She was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Shortly after 6pm, police forced their way into the house and arrested the man for recall to prison. He was not found to be armed.

Officers cordoned off the area during the incident and some residents were moved from their homes as a precaution.
