Army team prepares for trek

A GROUP of army personnel preparing for an arduous trek through the Himalayas have taken their training to Braehead in Scotland.

Capt Isla Collinge is leading a team including, from left, Cpl Stuart Ritchie, Pte Andy Foxton and L/Cpl Chris Waitt, to Everest at the end of the month and has been using artificial ski slopes to acclimatise herself for temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees.

Capt Collinge said she was “very excited” about the forthcoming trip, which will see her team walking for 16 days at altitudes of more than 5,500 metres. The team will scale the heights of Mount Everest’s base camp as well as to two other peaks in Nepal.
