Arrests in Skipton 'firearms' swoop

POLICE investigating a suspected firearms offence in Skipton are appealing urgently for a key witness to come forward.

Two local men, aged 50 and 22, were arrested by armed officers at 12:10am today after a report was made that a man was seen carrying a pistol-type weapon in a front garden at The Oval.

Three firearms were also seized from a house and enquiries are ongoing to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

No-one was injured in the incident and no shots were fired. Local residents can be assured that there was no threats or dangers posed to them. The incident was quickly contained and dealt with by the police.

The two men who were arrested are still in police custody awaiting further questioning.

As part of the enquiries, police need to trace an unknown man who made the emergency 999 call from a nearby public payphone. It is vital that he comes forward as soon as possible to help the investigation.
