Art club exhibition puts city in frame

ONE of Sheffield's oldest art clubs is set to hold its autumn exhibition at the Winter Garden from October 8 to 17.

Sheffield in the Frame” will feature the work of 26 artists from Heeley Art Club and the works will also be on sale, with prices ranging from 40 to 400.

After a modest start in Thirwell Road Wesleyan School more than 115 years ago, the art club later moved to Meersbrook Vestry Hall and now meets fortnightly at the Methodist Hall in Millhouses.

Coun Roger Davison, Sheffield Council’s cabinet member for culture, said: “Heeley Arts Club has been supporting the talent and creativity of Sheffielders for well over 100 years and I am delighted that they are sharing their interpretations of the city in a free exhibition.”

Keith Oakes, president of Heeley Art Club, added: “This is a special exhibition for us as the subject matter is limited to Sheffield. This makes the artists appreciate what a beautiful city we live in, resulting in a wide variety of pictures.”
