Art club to hold fifth annual exhibition at Winter Garden

MEMBERS of Sheffield’s longest-running art club are set to hold their fifth annual exhibition at the Winter Garden later this month.

A total of 27 artists from Heeley Art Club will be displaying work on the theme Sheffield Out of the Frame.

Visitors will be able to buy any of the 50 artworks on show, with prices ranging from £40 to £800. Cards and small prints will also be for sale.

A spokesman for the art club said: “Having begun life at the end of the nineteenth century, Heeley Art club is now 40 artists strong.

“After a modest start in Thirwell Road Wesleyan School, the club quickly moved to Meersbrook Vestry Hall.

“Over the years the club has had various locations. A room in North Church Street was convenient for the local tramps’ hostel, which provided models for a shilling a time.”

The art club now meets fortnightly at the Methodist Hall in Millhouses.

The exhibition is being supported by other local organisations, including Heeley City Farm.

Events officer at Heeley City Farm Sarah Hardy said: “The inclusive ethos of Heeley Art Club is something which we at Heeley City Farm wholly support and it’s fantastic that they are having their Sheffield Out of the Frame exhibition in the Winter Gardens.

“It will be very interesting to see the works depicting areas just outside the city, which have been created by members of the group who aren’t from Sheffield, but will nonetheless be influenced by it.”

The exhibition begins on Tuesday, July 12 and runs until Saturday, July 23. Entrance is free.
