Art group stages its annual showcase of Yorkshire talent

ONE of the East Riding’s longest running art groups is staging its annual exhibition.

Hornsea Art Society, which was formed in 1969, is holding its 41st exhibition at the resort’s Masonic Hall in Alexandra Road.

It features a range of styles and subjects by the group’s 90 members, who are mostly based in the East Riding but also come from as far afield as Doncaster.

The exhibition covers all types of media including watercolour, pastel, oil, acrylics, pencil, mixed media, textile, sculpture, and many of the 153 exhibits are for sale. The artists are also displaying their techniques at the exhibition in demonstration sessions.

Each year the society runs a competition at the town’s three schools awarding trophies and prizes to those selected as the best, and these form part of the exhibition.

All entries on show have been judged by independent assessors and the winners of 12 categories, which include best landscape, best East Riding scene, and best picture of Hornsea, will be announced tonight and presented with trophies.

Rod Hardwick, a member of the society’s committee, said: “It’s a really high standard, one of the best exhibitions going.”

The group meets on the second Friday each month at Hornsea Roman Catholic Church Hall, from 7.30pm.
