Art show hopes to prove big draw for potential members

MEMBERS of one of the country’s oldest art clubs have opened their annual exhibition and hope to attract new members as a result of the event.

Doncaster Art Club has been running since 1897 and members were instrumental in pressing for a museum and art gallery in Doncaster before the current building in Chequer Road opened.

The exhibition, which runs until September 17, includes works by award-winning local artist David Curtis as well as a range of work by current members.

The club runs a programme of events throughout the year and during the summer it holds monthly painting weekends.

Coun Cynthia Ransome, responsible for communities, said: “I would encourage anyone in Doncaster to come along and support this exhibition celebrating local creative talent to be proud of.

“For those who have never visited the museum before, the summer holidays offer a great and free opportunity for families to appreciate local art and culture.”

The exhibition will be open from 10am to 5pm, Monday to Friday and 10am to 4pm on Saturdays. Admission is free.
