Artist joins fashion store to raise money for charity

artist Dudley Edwards, who made his name in the 1960s on the swinging London art scene, has joined forces with Harvey Nichols in Leeds to raise cash for a local charity.

They have teamed-up to raise nearly £4,000 for local charity Friends of Alfie Martin, a charity which works closely with Leeds General Infirmary to provide intensive care facilities and transportation for critically ill babies across the Yorkshire region.

Exclusive signed firsts of Dudley Edwards’ latest collection of prints were auctioned off at Harvey Nichols to raise thousands for the charity.

The collection, which is based on dancers from Northern Ballet, is being sold in the Fourth Floor Restaurant and Bar at Harvey Nichols until the end of November, with a percentage of profits going to the charity. Along with auctioning the original firsts, signed postcards of one of the prints were sold as raffle tickets, raising just under £1,000.

Mr Edwards said: “I am so pleased that the event has managed to raise such a phenomenal amount of money for Friends of Alfie Martin.”

The Friends of Alfie Martin foundation was set up in 2002 following the death of newborn baby Alfie Martin, who passed away due to a delay in the wait for a suitably equipped ambulance to take him to another hospital.
