Artists get into a Feva for town’s visual arts festival

KNARESBOROUGH will be a town transformed over the next 10 days as its annual festival of entertainment and visual arts kicks off today.

The Festival of Entertainment and Visual Arts (Feva) is now in its 11th year and has become a permanent fixture on Knaresborough’s annual calendar – with hundreds of artists taking over the town.

This year’s highlights include a visual art trail with 22 exhibitions created by more than 100 different artists dotted around the market town’s streets, and 3D pictures installed in hidden corners and alleyways.

The 10-day event also includes musical performances, talks by famous authors and theatre productions.

Those highlights include a talk by the Barnsley-born author of Chocolat, Joanne Harris, and a performance of the play which inspired The Hound of the Baskervilles in the grounds of St John’s Church.

The festival’s visual arts co-ordinator Elaine Grinter said: “Feva has become absolutely crucial for the town.

“It is a real family event and we are hosting childrens’ events in the market place every day throughout the festival for people to come and enjoy themselves.

“But it is a very varied programme and a very big participation festival for everybody.”
