Artists go back to nature in pottery and print exhibition

TWO artists inspired by nature are hosting a joint exhibition at a Humber gallery.

Potter Caroline Burton and printmaker Sue Vanderplank are sharing Gallery One at the Ropewalk in Barton, and although their work differs in appearance it comes from a similar source.

Exhibitions officer Richard Hatfield said: “They both use natural plant forms as an inspiration for their respective works and share similar techniques.

“Sue, who produces limited edition prints using a wide variety of techniques, takes inspiration from nature by simplifying and abstracting natural forms, while Caroline incorporates techniques similar to printmaking by pressing natural materials in the clay to create beautiful textural wall pieces.”

Visitors can also see work from the latest artist to feature in the Ropewalk’s Collection series, until November 13.

The Box Gallery is hosting pieces by Michelle Freemantle, who creates a range of stoneware pottery designed to be used.

Much of her work incorporates text in the decoration, demonstrating her belief that “eating and drinking are social times spent with people you care for”.

The Gallery One exhibition, From Hedgerow to Home, runs until November 27.
