Artists hop to it

Artists at work painting the 40 giant toads that will be placed in a trail around Hull to mark the 25th anniversary of the death of Hull poet Philip Larkin.

The decorated models will be installed during the night of July 15 to mark two poems by Larkin about toads and will be auctioned off after the anniversary events have ended.

Some will appear in shopping centres and on the waterfront – while a "toad in the hole" may appear in excavated Beverley Gate. Organisers are hoping the toads will provide as big a draw as elephants, penguins and Superlambananas have done in other parts of the country.
