Artists set to market their work in paintings, textiles and photographs

ARTISTS are set to take up residence in Rotherham's newly-restored Imperial Buildings tomorrow.

The grade-two listed building was revamped as part of the Rotherham Renaissance regeneration project and a number of independent traders have already moved in.

Tomorrow will see the launch of a "mini arts hub", where local artists will offer a range of contemporary fine art and craft including textiles, jewellery, hand-made books, paintings and photography in and around the central kiosk of the former Edwardian market building.

Chief executive of Rotherham Open Arts Renaissance (ROAR) Karen Sherwood said: "I am delighted to be able to launch this initiative in such a fabulous building. The artists are very excited about this opportunity to have space to work, show and sell their unique pieces and services in such wonderful surroundings."

During tomorrow's launch event, visitors will be able to take part in art workshops or get their portrait sketched. In the evening will be live music from Dave Horner and the Silver Darlings.

Those moving to the Imperial Buildings include textile artists Gemma Nemer and Anne Russell, artist and jeweller Claire Reeves, contemporary artist Shahin Shah and photographers Ann Rudd and James Muirhead.
