Artist's travels remembered in stunning display of mozaics

ARTIST Sue Kershaw hopes to sparkle when her Hundreds and Thousands exhibition of pieces of cut glass takes off.

The community arts worker's latest work can be seen at York City Screen in Coney Street in her mosaic art exhibition, from today until November 26 between 11am and 11pm.

Ms Kershaw, 41, works with the mental health charity, Mind, using art to raise the self-esteem and confidence of disadvantaged children in schools.

She said: "I have collected all my materials on my travels – tea cups made of clay from India, French porcelain and bits of glass on the beach from Palermo in Sicily.

"My next big exhibition will be in 2012 at St Helens at The World of Glass – an ex-Pilkington's glass factory. At the moment I am concentrating on trying to find alternative funding for my 'day-job' as the funding dries up from January 14 and have been in touch with David Hockney to see if he can help.

"I find my work with the children does sometimes inform my art work. It's great as they often have lots of different techniques."
