Artwork unveiled in village in the run-up to Christmas

THE first of twenty four window displays was unveiled in Saltaire yesterday as the village is transformed into an advent calendar.

Now in it’s sixth year, the event run by Saltaire Inspired, welcomes the wider public as well as local residents to view the illuminated creations, revealed one by one each evening until December 24, and remaining lit until January.

The Living Advent Calendar is among a number of December events taking place in the village, near Bradford, including the Christmas lights switch-on on Saturday, from 6.30pm at Victoria Hall, followed by carol singing, a brass band and mulled wine.

Previous advent window topics have featured a variety of themes, including one of the famous Saltaire lions, traditional nativity and wintry scenes, as well as displays featuring Michael Jackson.

Co-ordinator David Starley said: “Although The Living Advent Calendar has an arts focus, it’s primarily a fun event which really brings the community together in the run-up to Christmas.

“With window designs by school children to professional artists, there is no shortage of ideas or enthusiasm.”

A map of the Living Advent Calendar trail will be available from outlets through out the village or visit facebook.com/saltaireadventcalendar
