Asbestos to be removed from council houses

ASBESTOS is set to be removed from dozens of properties on a York estate following an inspection by city council officials.

They discovered that asbestos in the homes on the Nunnery Lane estate had been damaged by the severe winter weather.

Work will be carried out in May, June and July on properties in Alcelina Court, Ancress Walk, Custance Walk, Gascoigne Walk, Paston Walk, St Benedict Road and Ward Court.

Steve Waddington, of York Council, said: “The council will be doing everything to minimise any risks and to remedy the situation as swiftly and safely as possible.”
