Askham Bryan: Spoiled for choice

Askham Bryan College is the North's fastest growing land-based college, and this year there is more than ever on offer for new students.

There are lots of full-time courses in all aspects of working with the land and animals, floristry, outdoor adventure, engineering and motorsport, and a wide range of apprenticeships.

Although tuition and registration fees etc are free for students under the age of 19, you may have to budget for accommodation, travel and the cost of any books and special materials you need for your course, depending on where you are going to live and the type of course you are planning to study. At Askham Bryan College, scholarships worth more than 30,000 every year are on offer to students.

While some scholarships are specifically for higher-education students studying for degrees, there are many others that are open to students studying at any level.

Principal Liz Philip explains: "We want this support to benefit as wide a range of students as possible. While some of our scholarships are related to particular subjects, others are aimed at students coming from a particular geographical area."
