DETECTIVES are investigating the sudden death of a Leeds man who may have been assaulted in the days before he died.

Police are visiting Beeston residents today to find out more about the last movements of Jason Jones.

Mr Jones, 39, died in Leeds General Infirmary on Friday, February 5, having been taken ill while remanded in Leeds prison for breaching an Asbo and failing to appear in court.

It is now believed he was assaulted in the days before his arrest.

Officers have been working to build up a picture of Mr Jones' lifestyle and movements in the last fortnight of his life, when he is believed to have been living at Flat 4, 40 Lodge Lane, Beeston. A post mortem examination revealed that Mr Jones died of a brain injury, but it is not yet known what caused it.

Detective Superintendent Paul Taylor said Mr Jones had injuries when arrested and police wanted to find out how he got them.
