Aston Martin DB6 in need of TLC sells for £131,000

A broken down Aston Martin left rusting in a British barn for 30 years has sold at auction for a staggering £131,000 – and is on its way to China.

The Aston Martin DB6 Vantage was the replacement for the iconic DB5, the company car of James Bond, but this white 1967 model has been neglected for three decades and now needs a full restoration after being left in a lock-up since 1983.

The non-runner went under the hammer on Wednesday at Bonhams’ Harrogate sale in Yorkshire with an estimate of around £60,000 but a bidding 
war between one person in 
the room and another online 
saw price paid more than 
double.

The hammer eventually went down at £116,000 with the car on its way to a mystery petrolhead bidding from behind their computer in China. When premiums and taxes are added the total rises to a staggering £131,420. The buyer will then have to find a further £100,000 to restore the iconic British sports car to its former glory.

The DB6 was a replacement for the famous ‘James Bond’ Aston Martin DB5. This model was owned by a garage proprietor in the Highlands of Scotland who had previously looked after it for its former keeper.
