Astronaut waits for space return

His love of exploration took him from North Yorkshire to America but astronaut Dr Nicholas Patrick's dream of a walkabout in space had to be put on hold yesterday after Nasa suspended plans for the launch of space shuttle Endeavour because of poor weather.

Dr Patrick, originally from Saltburn-by-the-Sea, North Yorkshire, was due to blast off from Cape Canaveral in Florida at 9.40am UK time yesterday but the conditions led launch managers to call it all off, with just nine minutes left in the countdown.

They were due to try and get space shuttle Endeavour on its way early this morning.
