Athletic policewoman proves herself to be top of the cops

York-based Pc Carrine Walker will represent Great Britain at a prestigious police triathlon world championship later this year after she stormed to victory at a competition in Chester two weekends ago.

Pc Walker, who is based in the specialist operations unit at North Yorkshire Police came first in both the ladies and police events.

She will now go on to represent Great Britain at the olympic-distance police world championships which begin in Austria on August 10.

Pc Walker, who is a member of the NYP Tri team, took up the triathlon in 2007. She previously swam for York City Baths Club after taking up swimming at the age of eight.

She qualified for the triathlon world championships in her first year of competing and will represent Great Britain at the European championships next month as well as the police triathlon in August.

She said: "I have always been a keen swimmer and took up triathlon as a personal challenge. I am thrilled to be representing my profession at an international level."

Her boss, Chief Inspector Aubrey Smith, said: "We are very proud of Carrine's achievements and wish her every success in the forthcoming police world championships.

"Her dedication and commitment is also reflected in her professional life. She shows the same qualities in everything she does and is an excellent role model to both her colleagues and to young people.

"Carrine works and trains very hard and it is pleasing to see the very positive results of her efforts."

Pc Walker has served with North Yorkshire Police for five

years, originally working as a response officer in York before joining the Clifton safer neighbourhood team where she developed football training for local youngsters.

She recently married another North Yorkshire Police officer, Inspector Mike Walker.
