Attempted murder arrests after 'vulnerable' man assaulted in his own home

Two people have been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a vulnerable man has seriously assaulted in his own home.

The 55-year-old victim is in hospital in a serious condition after being attacked at his Thurcroft home on Tuesday evening.

Emergency services were called to the property in Katherine Road at around 9.45pm following reports a man had been found injured.

Today (Friday), South Yorkshire Police said a 46-year-old man and a 35-year-old woman from Rotherham had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder.

They remain in custody being questioned by police officers.

Speaking after the attack, Detective Inspector Simon Palmer said: “This was a sustained assault on a vulnerable man in his own home and we are working hard to gather as much information as we can about what may have happened.

“Officers are in the local area carrying out house-to-house enquires and we remain at the scene gathering evidence to try and identify those responsible for this awful crime.

“There will be an increased police presence in the area to provide reassurance for the local community and we’re keen to speak to anyone who may hold information.”
