Attention turns to wedding gowns ahead of Royal event

WITH the fashion world on tenterhooks over what dress Kate Middleton will wear for her marriage to Prince William on April 29, a museum in Barton is offering a look at what other brides have opted for through the years.

Baysgarth House Museum, in Caistor Road, is playing host to Here Comes the Bride, an exhibition of wedding dresses from the 1800s to the present day that has been assembled by the museum’s volunteers.

The dresses have all be worn by local brides and loaned for the display by their owners and North Lincolnshire museums service.

Neil Turner, managing director of the Community Heritage Arts and Media Project, the charity which manages the museum, said: “This exhibition is a great example of some of the fantastic work carried out by our volunteers. We encourage people to get involved in many different activities at the museum and are always looking for new volunteers to join our team.

“The exhibition is just one of the many events scheduled to take place at the museum as part of its Get Involved project, which aims to involve more members of the community in museum volunteering.”

The museum is open on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and bank holidays and the exhibition runs until Sunday, April 17. For more details call 01652 637568.
