Author behind movie hit back in resort for festival

The award-winning author of a book which has been turned into a successful British movie will return to her hometown to launch this spring’s Scarborough Literature Festival.

Susan Hill, who penned The Woman in Black, which has just been released as a movie starring Daniel Radcliffe, will kick off the event on April 12.

The author’s novels and short stories have won many awards and been shortlisted for the Booker Prize. The Woman in Black, has been running as a play in the West End for more than 20 years, before being adapted for the big screen.

The Long Weekend festival, has been organised by North Yorkshire County Council’s library service and is set to feature a glittering line-up.

The county council’s executive member for libraries, Chris Metcalfe, said: “The team at Scarborough Library has done a fantastic job in securing appearances by really top-class writers.”
