Award hounour for founder of Leeds International Piano Competition

INSPIRATIONAL Leeds music teacher Dame Fanny Waterman was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 2016 Music Teacher Awards for Excellence.

Dame Waterman, who founded the world-renowned Leeds International Piano Competition, was presented with the award by Classic FM’s Margherita Taylor at a black-tie gala dinner and ceremony at the Jumeirah Carlton Hotel, Knightsbridge, London.

And Leeds College of Music won the Music Teacher Magazine Editor’s Award at the ceremony.

More than 280 industry guests were at the awards, which are designed to celebrate excellence in music education.

The Leeds International Piano Competition was first staged in September 1963 and has established itself as one of the world’s most renowned classical music contests.
