Axe to fall on 120 at insurance giant

INSURANCE giant Aviva yesterday announced 120 of its workers in Yorkshire were to lose their jobs under plans to integrate a stand-alone claims management business into the group.

Staff affected work for the company’s Asprea service, which has offices in Pear Street, Sheffield, and the company said making it part of the larger Aviva group would “result in a simpler, more streamlined service for customers”.

Aviva’s director of property claims, Caroline Cooper, said: “Today’s announcement aims to create a simpler service for our household and commercial customers, with fewer people involved in the handling of their property claim.

“But we appreciate this is also a difficult time for our employees and we will be working with them to provide the support they need and will be offering re-deployment opportunities where we can.”

Ms Cooper said the changes to the firm should be complete by the end of 2013.
