Baby joy for couple who thought it was impossible

A YOUNG woman who was told at the age of 15 that she could never have children has now become a mother, after her cousin volunteered to act as surrogate and gave birth to twins.

Fifteen years ago doctors told Jane Kassim, from Rotherham, that she would never give birth as she had been born without a womb.

But mother-of-one Amy Bellamy then volunteered to help Mrs Kassim and her husband Adis – and has now given birth to twin girls.

Mrs Kassim, 30, said: “It’s all I dreamed of and more. I can’t thank Amy enough for what she has done for us.”

Mrs Bellamy was in and out of hospital in the two weeks before she gave birth by caesarean section at Rotherham Hospital, but insisted it had been worthwhile.

The new arrivals Isla Jane and Ivy May weighed in at 5lb 4oz and 4lb 7oz respectively.

Mrs Bellamy, from Rawmarsh in Rotherham, had one of her cousin’s fertilised eggs implanted in her womb. She said: “Every ache and pain has been worth it to give Jane and Adis what they wanted, their own family.”

Mrs Kassim added: “I held them straight away and it just felt fantastic, the best feeling ever.

“I don’t think until I held them I actually believed that it was going to happen.

“Adis was the same – he was waiting in another room and when he finally go to meet them his face was an absolute picture.”

The twins had to be kept in hospital for over a week, as Ivy had trouble feeding.

“It was something I felt I had to do and I have no regrets at all. I am just really happy for them.

“I think we’ll wait a while before thinking about any more kids of our own.

“I’ve had enough of being pregnant for now.”
