Back to a hero's welcome

Lance Corporal Daniel Symons is reunited with his wife Becky as soldiers from The 3rd Battalion The Yorkshire Regiment (3 Yorks) return to Battlesbury Barracks in Warminster, Wiltshire, after a six-month tour in Afghanistan

The battalion lost two soldiers during the tour. Lance Corporal Graham Shaw, 27, and Corporal Liam Riley, 21, were killed by improvised explosive devices.

Their sacrifice was remembered as the battalion returned , but there were also smiling faces as partners, wives and children welcomed their heroes home.

More than 60 soldiers from 3 Yorks returned from a deployment which saw them involved in Operation Moshtarak, the recent drive against the Taliban.

Many had replaced troops in units who had lost soldiers through death or injury.

Major Nick Mackenzie said: "The contribution made by the soldiers of 3 Yorks to reinforce the Battle groups in Helmand has been immense."
