Backing for eco-friendly homes plan

ENVIRONMENTAL campaigners are backing plans to build eight eco-friendly houses in the village of Youlgrave, in the Peak District National Park.

Amended plans have been submitted to build six houses and two bungalows in Conksbury Lane.

John King, planning officer at Friends of the Peak District, said: “We supported this application before, and we still think it is a great little scheme.

“The houses have some brilliant green design features, including excellent insulation and large double-glazed windows to harness heat from the sun.

“They will incorporate traditional features such as stone lintels and sills, and be built of natural stone, so they’ll suit this Peak District limestone village very well.”

Mr King added that the houses would also go some way to meeting the demand for affordable homes in Youlgrave.

He said: “According to a survey done by Derbyshire Dales District Council, there’s a need for nine new dwellings in the village, so they are crucially important for local people.”

The Peak District National Park Authority will make a decision on the application on Friday, April 15.
