Bad-tarmac roads to be dug up again

THREE of the busiest roads in Hessle will have to be dug up and repaired for a second time after faulty tarmac was laid.

Work in Tower Hill, Northgate and Southgate, which all carry traffic to and from Hessle Square, will be carried out on three consecutive Sundays from August 8, weather permitting, to minimise disruption.

East Riding Council said the cost of resurfacing the roads would be met by contractors Morrison Highway Maintenance.

A spokesman said: "The council thanks residents and businesses in Hessle for their continued patience while the remedial work is completed.

"There have been problems with the quality of the tarmac delivered to Tower Hill, Northgate and Southgate that only became apparent over time."

The roads will be closed to the public between 8.30am and 6pm each day when the work is carried out, although there will still be access for emergency vehicles.

Access will be maintained for residents, but this may be limited at times.

The work in Tower Hill will be done first and should be completed on the first Sunday.
