Bail extended in corruption claims case

A LONG-running inquiry into alleged corruption surrounding Cleveland Police is to last at least another six months to allow further consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service on possible charges.

Former chief constable Sean Price, who was sacked for gross misconduct last October, and former chairman of Cleveland Police Authority Dave McLuckie are among nine people previously arrested who are to have their bail extended to September.

Operation Sacristy began in April 2011 and although led by Keith Bristow, head of the National Crime Agency, it has largely been staffed by North Yorkshire Police.

A Sacristy spokesman said: “The criminal investigation is well advanced and has reached a stage where we need to further consult the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) for advice on the evidence gathered during our extensive enquiries, before submitting a full file of evidence for their consideration.”
