Balloon stunt to promote adoption

ROTHERHAM Council’s adoption team are preparing an eye-catching stunt to raise awareness of children in the town without a family.

They will be joined by the Mayor, Coun Shaun Wright, and existing adoptive parents to release 61 balloons outside the Town Hall at midday today – one for each of the children currently awaiting adoption in Rotherham.

The symbolic spectacle also marks National Adoption Week.

There will be a drop-in day on November 15 at Clifton Park Museum, with social workers on hand to explain the adoption process between 10am-noon and 4pm-6pm.

Coun Paul Lakin, cabinet member for safeguarding children and adults, said: “We already have many people who have stepped forward to become adoptive parents in Rotherham and helped our children.

“However, there are more children out there who need the help and support that a caring environment brings.

“There is also a large amount of support available so we would urge anyone thinking about adoption to get in touch and find out more.”
